Our Board of Directors

About our Board of Directors

The board of directors of SEAFCU is a group of volunteers, who are elected by the members, who provide overall governance and strategic direction for the credit union. Unlike a bank's board, which represents shareholders, a credit union's board represents the members, who are also the owners of the credit union.

The board's responsibilities include:

  1. Setting Strategic Direction
  2. Establish long-term goals and objectives.
  3. Approve major business plans, budgets, and initiatives.
  4. Ensure the credit union remains financially strong and member focused.
  5. Oversight of Management
  6. Hire the CEO.
  7. Monitor management's performance without handling day-to-day operations.
  8. Ensure management is executing board-approved policies and strategies.
  9. Financial Stewardship
  10. Review financial reports and key performance indicators.
  11. Ensure assets are protected and resources are used responsibly.
  12. Maintain adequate capital and financial stability.
  13. Risk Management and Compliance
  14. Establish policies for managing operational, financial, cybersecurity, and regulatory risks.
  15. Ensure compliance with federal and state credit union regulations.
  16. Oversee internal and external audits.
  17. Representing the Membership
  18. Act in the best interests of all members, not a particular group.
  19. Maintain the credit union's mission and cooperative principles.
  20. Consider how policies and services affect members.
  21. Governance and Policy Development
  22. Adopt and periodically review policies.
  23. Ensure ethical conduct and sound governance practices.
  24. Maintain board effectiveness through training and succession planning.
